Wedding Inspo: English Garden Wedding

Many people who know my story and my family, know that I am half english. My mum was raised all over the world and my father moved to England when he was nine. It wasn’t until my parents were married and my dad was going to get his medical degree that they moved to the US. As a result my sisters and I have dual citizenship and all of our extended family on our Mum’s side live across the pond. I fell in love with weddings at a young age; but the weddings I loved so much were english! So here is one of my takes on a traditional English wedding! English Wedding , English Inspired Wedding , Inspo, British Wedding Inspo , England Wedding Inspo

The iconic English wedding is perfect for a spring wedding. Today’s theme is centered around traditions and inspiration from across the pond. Two key ingredients are going to be essential for the classic English wedding; simplicity and texture. Yes, they are a bit of opposites so it’ll be all about finding the right balance. A lot of the texture you’ll need will be natural as this wedding is going to be set in a garden.

Bridal Wear

For your bridal gown inspo we have two perfectly beautiful gowns that we believe truly encapsulate the english feel. First is our Ava gown, she is the perfect tullé aline gown. With over eight yards of tullé, this skirt belongs in a true english garden. From the front she has a simple bodice with perfect satin sleeves just finished off with a few touches of lace. When she turns around a wonderful illusion back is perfectly framed in with the same hand beaded lace.

The second gown we have chosen is from our newest collection, An Ocean of Memories. Meet Gemma; she is made from a shimmer jacquard and is also adorned with hand beaded lace. With a high neck and a fully open back this gown is the definition of regal. Perfect for an English wedding.

Grooms Wear

You may have to convince your groom to wear a little pink but this groom’s look is a really fun take on a traditional morning suit. Bringing a bit of texture in through the vest, as subtle pattern is woven into the garment. A brighter blue jacket and slacks are perfect for making the look more lively and celebratory. And should your groom say no to the pink, simply switch it out for another one of your colors, like forest green or Dark Ivory.

Bridal Beauty

Making sure your beauty looks keep the proper look of the classic english styles but have a bit of a twist to them is going to be key. For the makeup we have gone with a soft flushed face, nude lip, and a smokey eye. Bringing the attention into the eyes keeps it dramatic and sultry but doesn’t take it over the top. For her hair we have chosen a messy braid and half up look. The design of it looks put together and poised but then is ruffed up a little to bring back some sex appeal and again adding a bit of a new twist.

You could use a hair vine, or even fresh flowers to adorn the hair.

Wedding Colors

Our colors have been chosen very wisley. Because the wedding would occur in the garden you’ll have a lot of natural colors around you anyways. Some of these colors should appear in your color scheme and bouquet. Hence the choice of our Forest Green, Dark Ivory and Rose. Greenery is everywhere and the are so many different flowers that grow in an array of pink’s and ivory’s.

Keeping the wild natural growth of a garden in mind this bouquet, is designed perfectly with our colors in mind. Using the softer tones of pink and ivory allow you to bring in a ton of texture. You could have just plucked it from the garden.

Decor

Most of the wedding decor for this theme comes right down to what’s naturally growing in your ceremony and reception locations. For the ceremony to create a beautiful focal point we suggest having your florist create a circle arch with greenery and floral. We love how this one has tons of greenery but just the slightest touches of ivory flowers; it really allows for the bride and groom to shine. Using items like vintage furniture to dust around your spaces and an eclectic but simple collection of candles will take your theme to another level. Lastly the dinnerware has to be spot on; with so many beautiful english china you can’t miss this opportunity. Using a textured charger in all one color while adding the classic white and blue printed plate is perfect! It creates so much dimension and interest you’ll need little else on the table.

Food

Food is very important to any theme. For this one we choose so many classic dishes you’ll feel like you’re truly in Europe. First is your classic sunday roast. While I lived in London, I spent a lot of my sundays at a new pub eating sunday roast with my friends. It isn’t just the delicious food but coming together on a sunday to break bread; this meal comes with tradition too. A Sunday roast can vary depending on your taste, however, a Yorkshire Pudding is a must and is commonly accompanied with roast beef, gravy, and some vegetables like carrots, broccoli, or asparagus.
Next you have your classic summer cocktail, Pims! Filled with a variety of fruits and cucumber, lemonade (or in the states Sprite), and Pims liqueur.

Dinner isn’t complete without a cup a tea at the end and what comes with tea? A simple tray of sweet pastries. While you also have cake, keep in mind not all of your guests like cake so this is a perfect time to give other options.
Lastly we have a delicious Eton Mess! Crumbled up meringue cookies, whipped cream, and fruit; this desert is so divine it’s the perfect midnight treat to send your guests off with!

Cake

Cake is, in my opinion the most important part other then the dress, but that might have to do with my slight addiction to sweets. This cake continues to take our tips with texture and simplicity to the next level. In a duck egg colored fondant the white piping really pops off the cake making it a focal point. The simplicity of the top and bottom tier balance out the very detailed middle tier.
